Massage therapy is a form of alternative medicine that involves the manipulation of soft tissues in the body. Massage therapists use their hands, elbows, and forearms to knead muscles and loosen adhesions. This can help to relieve pain, improve range of motion, and reduce stress.
There are many different types of massage, including Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, hot stone massage, and more. Each type of massage has its own unique benefits.
If you are interested in trying osteopathic myofascial release, it is important to seek out a trained and experienced practitioner. This type of therapy can be very helpful for many people. To book an appointment, Please contact our office at (306) 580 7796 or book online.
Swedish Massage
A Swedish Massage is a type of massage therapy that incorporates various sets of massage therapeutic movements, including effleurage (sliding motions), petrissage (kneading movements), friction or rubbing, bending, stretching, and vibrational techniques.
A Swedish Massage uses a light to medium pressure technique that can increase blood oxygen levels and decrease muscle inflammation, improve circulation and flexibility, and relieve muscular tension and back pain. It's a treatment that makes you feel better, more rested, less stressed, and physically able to tackle life's challenges.
Whether you're dealing with aches and stiffness from common activities or physically taxing chores, a Swedish Massage can help invigorate and revitalize your aching muscles. This sort of therapy is also safe for expectant moms and new mothers, as well as infants and young children; it's also an excellent massage option for our elders or elderly population.
Our osteopathic practitioner will alter their pressure and technique to your unique physical demands following your initial consultation.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage entails applying greater pressure and slower strokes to the deeper layers of muscle, tendon, and fascia. The movements are usually made using fingers, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms, with specific attention paid to painful or tense regions.
Deep tissue massage is a type of bodywork that's used to treat muscular and joint pain. Deep tissue massage is particularly popular among athletes and sports fans since it helps to release stubborn knots, perpetuated tension, restricted areas, and adhesions. Its demeanor can also aid your muscles and joints in recovering their normal range of motion. While some of the treatments seem comparable to a Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage isn't one and the same; rather than increasing the intensity of a Swedish Massage, it deepens its touch. Here at Divergent Therapy we make sure to sink into the tissue allowing it to release to the deeper tissues rather than force our way through.
At the start of your message, a gentler pressure is commonly used to warm up the muscle. The pressure then rises to your level of comfort after that. Always talk with our practitioner about the intensity of the pressure so that it may be adjusted to your personal threshold.
You might feel a little stiff or sore after your massage, but it should go away within a day or two. If you have any concerns or experience discomfort following a massage, please inform your osteopathic practitioner.
There are many benefits to massage therapy, and it can be an effective treatment for a variety of conditions. Our massage and osteopathic practitioner will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Frequently Asked Questions About Massage Therapy
-
After a brief health history, discussion of the treatment plan and areas of the body that will be treated the massage therapist will leave the room to wash their hands. After the massage therapist has left the room the client will undress to their level of comfort and get onto the table in between the two sheets on their back or stomach. Only the area that the massage therapist is working on will be draped leaving all other areas covered by the sheet and blanket. The therapist will check in with the client to monitor pressure levels making sure to be effective but within pain levels. At the end of the massage you may feel a bit light-headed or dizzy, this can happen because of an increase in circulation so make sure to take your time getting off of the table and dressed. The therapist will leave the room at the end of the treatment to wash their hands again and once they are gone the client can slowly get off the table and redress before opening the door to allow the therapist back in to take payment and talk about homecare.
